MORE INFO ABOUT WinTimer (Standard
Edition)
*REQUIREMENTS
This version of WinTimer requires
|
1. |
Windows 98/2000/XP/2003 or later
Windows operating system |
|
2. |
Pentium class or higher processor. |
|
3. |
UPS (optional) |
|
4. |
color printer (optional) |
NOTE:
If you are installing a newer version of WinTimer, please make sure that WinTimer
Server/Client is NOT running. You MUST uninstall the previous version before installing
the new one.
*CHOOSING TYPE OF INSTALLATION
Select SERVER to install the WinTimer/Server to the current computer. If you have
a LAN, it is advisable to install it at only one computer. Select CLIENT only if
you have a LAN and have setup one SERVER. Take note that you cannot use WinTimer/Client
without a LAN and a WinTimer/Server and without configuring the TCP/IP settings
of your computer. For more information, refer to online help.
*SOME KNOWN PROBLEMS
|
1. |
When a Dial-up is set-up on your
computer and you have chosen in your Internet Options|Connections, Always dial my
default connection, WinTimer Client sometimes causes to dial a connection. It is
advised that you set your options to Never dial a connection. |
|
2. |
When playing Counter Strike and WinTimer
Client locks the computer, sometimes you can no longer go back to the game when
you unlock the computer. It is not yet confirmed if Counter Strike or Windows or
Direct X causes this problem. WinTimer is tested on different Direct X network games,
but so far, Counter Strike has the problem. For purposes of information, WinTimer
uses API well-documented by Microsoft to lock the computer. To resolve this problem,
on WinTimer Server, go to Settings|General Tab and check Don't focus WinTimer Client. |
|
3. |
When THE I-M-MEDIA SOFTWARE (Version
1.9.0 build 1865) is installed, WinTimer can no longer send/receive data through
TCP/IP. To quote "We DO NOT recommend to install this software on 'mission critical'
PCs and email accounts due to the nature of this beta software." Although, there
are doubts on what maybe the problem, WinTimer is being reviewed, recompiled, and
retested to correct this problem. |
|
4. |
When using Turbo C/C++ DOS compiler,
WinTimer Client will sometimes hang up although the computer itself will not. Restart
the computer to correct this problem. |
|
5. |
When a sudden power interruption
occurs, Windows may not able to flush the log file properly and when wintimer restarts,
it may say that the log file has been modified. |
|
6. |
A program using a Layered Service
Provider may not work properly with WinTimer because of a 'bug' in the LSP.DLL.
For more info regarding Layered Service Provider visit http://www.microsoft.com/msj/0599/layeredservice/layeredservice.aspx
|
|
7. |
For Windows 2000/XP/2003, please
shutdown and restart WinTimer Server/Client after the system came from hibernation. |
|
8. |
For Windows 2000/XP/2003, after changing
the IP address, please restart the system. |
|
9. |
Some anti-virus program that uses
heuristic scan wrongfully detects Wintimer Client as virus. Add wintimerc.exe in
the exclusion list of your anti-virus program. |
*CAUTION ON USING LAYERED SERVICE
PROVIDER(LSP.DLL)
A program using LSP which uses earlier version of LSP.DLL may cause blockage of
packets to be passed between WinTimer Server and Client. This concern has been addressed
by Microsoft Developer Support(Incident ID:SRZ030106000510) and provided a solution
by modifying LSP.DLL. To check for a possible LSP-using program, press F8 on WinTimer
Server and if ALL the PC number are zero (0), then you probably have one. Search
for LSP.DLL in your Windows System directory. If you find one, please follow the
following:
|
1. |
Download a copy of the modified lsp.dll.
Download lsp.zip |
|
2. |
Extract lsp.zip to a temporary folder.
(ex. c:\temp) |
|
3. |
Backup your original lsp.dll. Copy
it somewhere outside the system directory. (ex. c:\lsp) |
|
4. |
Restart your computer in MS-DOS. |
|
5. |
copy the modified lsp.dll to your
system directory. (where the original lsp.dll is located ex. c:\windows\system for
Windows9x; c:\windows\systerm32 for WindowsNT). |
|
6. |
If it prompts you to overwrite it,
select YES. |
7.
8.
|
Restart your computer in normal mode.
If your computer runs erratically, please start in MS-DOS again and copy back the
original lsp.dll. |
|
9. |
Please let us know the results.
